NEW DELHI: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday sent a proposal to LG VK Saxena to hold Delhi’s mayoral elections on February 22.This comes after Supreme Court had on Friday asked MCD to issue notice for the elections within 24 hours.This might in turn give Delhi its mayor after a gap of over two months since the December 4 civic polls and much political bickering between the ruling and opposition parties.A bench headed by Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, also ordered the issuance of a notice convening the first meeting of the MCD in 24 hours and fixing the date for electing the mayor, deputy mayor, and members of the standing committee of the MCD.The bench, also comprising Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala, accepted AAP’s plea that after the Mayor gets elected, he/she would preside over the elections of Deputy Mayor and members of the standing committee, and not the pro-tem presiding officer.With inputs from agencies
