NEW DELHI: Promoting the allotment of 3,000-odd EWS flats recently as one of the biggest welfare schemes of PM Modi government, BJP has started taking slum dwellers from different parts of the city on a tour of the in situ redevelopment project in south Delhi’s Kalkaji. A senior BJP functionary said that the allotment of houses under Jahan Jhuggi Wahin Makan scheme had brought a massive change in the lives of slum dwellers. “We are taking people from slum clusters of the city to Kalkaji flats to show them how their lives can also change with welfare schemes run by the Modi government,” said a senior party functionary. There are close to 650 sum clusters in the Capital with more than 5 lakh population. DDA has planned in situ slum rehabilitation projects in over 350 such clusters. Delhi BJP functionaries said the response from people who have visited the kalkaji flats has been ecstatic. “The promise of the Prime Minister to provide a good and dignified life has come true in the form of these flats provided to them. As soon as BJP comes back to office in MCD, it will try to provide flats to all the slum dwellers,” Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta told reporters. With less than a month to election, BJP has also intensified ‘Har Ghar Sampark Abhiyan’, its voter outreach programme. Senior party functionaries said BJP workers went to each of the 250 municipal wards on Sunday to connect with voters. “Apart from talking about BJP’s work in MCD and Centre, we also talked about the failure of the Kejriwal government. The high pollution level this year has proved that AAP government has been incompetent. We also informed people about various scams AAP has been involved in,” said a Delhi BJP functionary.
