NEW DELHI: In the run up to G20 events, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decked up the roundabout at Mandi House with flower towers. In several other areas that see a high footfall, the horticulture department of NDMC has created tower designs, circular and heart shapes as well as pyramids and placed them strategically.”The idea was to do something different from the usual flower beds that one sees in the centre of roads and pavements. This concept will create traction among the public and create a better visual impact on the passersby,” said an NDMC official (north zone), horticulture department. In all, there are 253 structures – 250 medium-sized and three big – that have been styled in eight different frames and are newly designed by NDMC, added the official.”The structures will be on display all through the summer season. This is the first time that such designs are being seen in NDMC. The pyramid at Connaught Place and flower towers in other places are a mega attraction for the public. Many people have been coming and getting selfies clicked,” the official said. The flower towers are set up mostly at the central verges on NDMC roads and parks. Each tower has about 500 flower bulbs. About 85 such towers will be set up in the NDMC areas in the coming few days, the official added. The horticulture department has used mostly the petunia flowering plants, which come in a variety of colours. In a few days, three more mega-flower structures, which will be about 20 feet in height, will also be added to the existing designs.
