NEW DELHI: Police have found dismembered parts of a human body, including the skull, near a Regional Rapid Transit System construction site in southeast Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan. A bunch of hair at the site seems to indicate the remains are of a woman. While the autopsy report is awaited, the cops are trying to ascertain whether the parts found in Sarai Kale Khan and the two legs and hand recovered in Noida on March 16 belong to the same body. A caller informed police at 11.56am on Saturday about the body parts. “The local police found some human body parts in various stages of decomposition at the site. A bunch of hair was also recovered,” a police officer said. Apparently the remains were first discovered by labourers. “They found a foul smell emanating from a plastic bag kept near an iron barricade. When they opened it, they found the dismembered body pieces,” the officer said. The bag contained the skull, wrist, fingers and some bones. “A bunch of hair was also in the bag. It appears to be a woman’s hair. However, we are not fully sure about this. The post-mortem report will clear all doubts,” the officer said. The scene was inspected by the crime and forensic teams, and the body remains sent to AIIMS Trauma Centre for tests. The cops are searching for the remaining parts of the body. “We are also scanning CCTV footage for clues to who could be behind the crime,” said the officer. An investigator suspected the bag containing the parts to have been thrown at the Ring Road spot at Sarai Kale Khan. “It seems the person was murdered somewhere else and dumped here,” the officer said. Rajesh Deo, DCP (Southeast), said that prima facie it appeared to be a case of homicide. Police have accordingly registered a case under IPC Section 302 for murder. The finding is a chilling reminder of Shraddha Walkar’s murder and the dismemberment of her body by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawalla in south Delhi’s Chhatarpur Pahadi. He had disposed of Shraddha’s body parts at various places.
