NEW DELHI: A three-day-old child who was declared dead at Lok Nayak Hospital and later found alive by the family, died in the hospital on Wednesday. The baby was born 23 weeks premature. The family members confirmed that the child, who was on ventilator support in NICU, died around 4pm. The child’s uncle, however, said that the body was not handed over to the family till 11pm.”The hospital wants to conduct a postmortem of the child, but we don’t want that. The baby is anyway premature and just three days old. We don’t want the child to suffer anymore and (wish to ) give her a proper funeral,” the child’s uncle told TOI.The kin noted that the hospital and police were insisting on conducting an autopsy. “They said, the incident has been widely covered and many officials from government and hospital have been involved,” he said.On Sunday evening, Ruksar delivered the baby and the gynaecology team declared the baby dead. They handed over the body to the family in a glove box. The family had already made preparations for burial but they found the baby moving and immediately rushed back to the hospital. The family claimed that initially the doctors did not address the case but the child was admitted to ICU and kept under observation after the intervention of the DCP.
