Police said the bike was hurtling down the road at 80-90kmphGHAZIABAD: A 23-year-old man died while his friend was injured after their bike plunged 20 metres from the Thakurdwara flyover in Kotwali on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Priyanshu Kumar, who was riding along with his friend, Tarun Jatav. While Priyanshu worked with a private company in Noida, Tarun was a DJ. Both lived in the same colony in Kotwali. Amit Khatri, the SHO of Kotwali police station, said the accident took place around 3am. “We received a call around 3.15am. A team was sent to the spot and the two bikers were taken to MMG hospital for treatment. Priyanshu was declared dead on arrival while his friend was admitted. Tarun has suffered grievous injuries to the head. A surgery will be done on him,” he added. The bike, according to the police, was hurtling down the road at 80-90kmph. “They crashed into the divider and toppled over. We are scanning CCTV footage of nearby areas. Given the time when the accident took place, there were hardly any witnesses on the road. We haven’t received any complaint so far either,” Khatri said. Abhay, Priyanshu’s elder brother, told TOI that around 12.30am, his brother was sitting on the terrace with other family members when he received a call from his friend. “He told us he was going for a cup of tea and would return home soon. We asked him to not go out so late at night, but he didn’t listen to us. He went out on his bike,” he said. “On Thursday morning, our elder sister came from Hapur while another arrived from Ghukhna village to celebrate rakshabandhan. They were shocked after hearing about Priyanshu’s death,” Abhay said. On July 1, three men died after falling off the same flyover. Two of them were bikers, who were speeding down the road and hit a sanitation worker sweeping the road. All three toppled over the flyover wall and fell to their death.
