NEW DELHI: Days after a businessman, his wife and their maid were murdered in west Delhi’s Hari Nagar, police on Sunday arrested an 18-year-old former employee, Amit Mehto alias Anil, and his associate, Saurabh (20), from Bihar. They used to reside in Dwarka. Mehto, the mastermind, was abused and slapped by the businessman in front of everyone and then sacked last month. He wanted to take revenge for his humiliation. The accused fled with Rs 12 lakh in cash with which they purchased iPhones, clothes and other items. So far, six people have been arrested in the case. More than Rs 3 lakh, iPhones and jewellery have been recovered from their possession. Last Tuesday, the accused committed the murders of Sameer Ahuja, his wife, Shalu, and their maid, Sapna. Earlier, three accused were arrested while planning to flee Delhi. Later, police arrested Ramjaan from Bihar. An officer said, “Mehto, Saurabh and another associate, Ramjaan, had fled to Jaipur, where they purchased iPhones and new SIM cards. They went to Bihar to their relatives’ residences where they had never been in the past several years.” With the help of call details, a team led by inspector Pratap Singh went to Bihar and arrested Mehto and Saurabh. Mehto told police that he had an affair with a girl who worked in Shalu’s salon. Ahuja came to know about it and abused him. An enraged Mehto then told Ahuja that he knew about his numerous girlfriends. Ahuja got infuriated, slapped Mehto and also abused the girl. “Mehto was sacked from the job 10 days before the murder,” said DCP (West) Ghanshyam Bansal. As Mehto wanted to take revenge, he lured his friends with the money kept in the house. All five men agreed. They first came on Monday night to kill them, but the family had gone to Dwarka for a get-together. “The next day, Mehto came to meet Ahuja to settle his dues. Shalu opened the face recognition door. Soon, Sapna came to the main gate and he saw her on the camera. He tried to tell the maid to visit after some time, but he accidentally pressed a button and the gate opened. Mehto then asked Sapna to go to the kitchen,” said the officer. One of the accused hit Ahuja with a frying pan and then stabbed him. Sapna and Shalu’s necks were slit by other accused. The accused claimed that they wanted to kill Ahuja’s three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, but Mehto hid her from his associates.
