FARIDABAD: An 11-year-old boy, who had left his house to go to a nearby shop in Jawahar Colony of Faridabad, died after falling into an open drain late on Saturday, police said. Kunal Singh, a Class 3 student, was reported missing around 10.30pm and was found unconscious an hour later. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. According to the boy’s father Arjun Singh, he was at work when he received a call that Kunal had fallen into a sewage drain. He alleged that his son died due to negligence. “My son died because civic authorities didn’t deem it important to cover the drain, putting the lives of residents at risk. My son became a victim of that. He had gone out to buy some household items and this happened,” the father, who does odd jobs in the city, said. Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered against the sub divisional officer and area joint engineer of the municipal corporation. The accused have been charged under sections 304A (death by negligence) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. “Family members and residents protested, and alleged the negligence of the municipal corporation. Following their complaint, we have registered the FIR,” said police spokesperson Sube Singh. Officials of the municipal corporation could not be reached for a comment till Sunday evening. Earlier in August, an 8-year-old boy fell into an open drain while playing outside his house in Gadoli Khurd village of neighbouring Gurgaon. His family members said he was swept away in the waters as the drain was overflowing after monsoon rains. Residents of the village had protested against the incident, even blocking the Gurugram-Pataudi road. Officials later said they had fenced the drain to avoid such accidents.
